Previously US president Donald Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the country from WHO. The fresh administration believes that the WHO is not effective enough, is politically influenced and requires besides much US funding.
"A new, streamlined central structure has been developed as a consequence of the precedence setting, reducing the number of executives from 14 to 7 and the number of departments from 76 to 34," he said.
The CEO of the organization added that despite the austerity measures taken by the WHO over the last 8 years, it faces a wage deficit of over $500 million in the next 2 years.
"The Secretariat has taken a number of actions to reduce travel, procurement, recruitment, early retirement and others. These measures have helped to reduce the gap, but we inactive have no choice but to reduce the number of our employees," explained the WHO head.
According to him, due to the withdrawal of backing from the US, patients in at least 70 countries are not receiving treatment, wellness centres are being closed down, wellness professionals are losing their jobs, and people bear higher healthcare costs.
