The planet Bank has announced its demands to reduce the velocity limits on roads with a view to improving the safety of traffic participants. According to the proposals, limiting the velocity to 100 km/h on motorways, 70 km/h in undeveloped areas, 50 km/h in cities and 30 km/h in surviving areas could importantly reduce the number of road accidents and their tragic consequences.

In the Guide for Safe Speeds report, the planet Bank called on governments to take action to importantly reduce the velocity limits on roads. planet Bank analysts have noted that drivers present frequently exceed permitted speed, which is 1 of the main factors leading to road accidents, frequently with tragic consequences.
"If we want to improve road safety effectively, more stringent velocity regulations must be introduced under different driving conditions", the study states.

- 30 km/h on roads where unprotected traffic participants occur,
- 50 km/h on urban streets with hazard of collisions and side collisions,
- 70 km/h in an undeveloped area without separation of traffic directions,
- 100 km/h on highways and expressways.
The planet Bank believes that specified changes can importantly increase the chances of surviving road accident victims, especially those who are more vulnerable, specified as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

The planet Bank declares that its aim is to advance the thought of "safe speeds" and to encourage the implementation of appropriate solutions for road velocity management.
