On the night of 26 to 27 August 2023, a violent robbery occurred in 1 of the houses located close Konarski Street and the 800th anniversary of Sanoku. At the time of the incidental there were owners and their guests, including children. The perpetrators who, according to the victims' accounts, utilized the east accent attacked “later at night”, causing panic among the residents.
Rapid intervention of services
Emergency services were informed of the incidental on 27 August, at 4:30 p.m., erstwhile 1 of the neighbors called the emergency number. According to the report, the neighbour heard a cry for aid coming from the home next door, prompting him to immediately study a suspected robbery. According to the territory lawyer in Sanoku, Isabella Jurkowska-Hanus, the attackers acted “very aggressive, even brutally” towards those in the building. Due to the early phase of the investigation, details of the course of the robbery and its circumstances are not yet disclosed.
Health condition of victims
The victims have undergone the essential medical examinations, but for this minute the prosecution does not even have a preliminary assessment of the degree of injury. Due to the seriousness of the situation and the scale of aggression utilized by the attackers, the victims may have suffered serious injuries, but further information will be provided only after the medical examination has been completed.
Conduct of assault and police action
The assault continued from “late night hours” until dawn. The attackers likely held the victims for respective hours, utilizing physical and intellectual force against them. According to the findings, the perpetrators besides committed the robbery, but it is not possible to estimation the value of the losses at the moment. As D.A. Jurkowska-Hanus points out, “the victims, at this stage, were incapable to estimation the value of losses”. This means that material harm may have been significant, but their precise definition will only be possible after a thorough review of the missing or destroyed items.
Investigation and prevention
An investigation into the robbery was initiated under Article 280 of the Criminal Code, which concerns robbery. According to Polish law, robbery is simply a crime threatened with imprisonment from 2 to 12 years. Police have been conducting intensive activities to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and there have been increased police patrols in Sanoka area since the incident.
Investigators effort to identify the attackers, but so far there are no specifics about their origins or whereabouts. A key indication for law enforcement may be the fact that perpetrators spoke with the “Eastern accent”, which may propose that they came from outside Poland or from areas of the east country.
