The presence of Tusk at the border was different. Especially the tourist manufacture was counting on any affirmative gestures – yes, you can visit the military by the barrier and say a fewer circular sentences about defence, but you can besides have dinner under the eyes of the cameras in a local restaurant, visit any close agrarian hosts, enjoy the local tourist attraction. In another words, send a signal that Krynka, Białowieża or Hajnówka are safe places where average life is going on and which can besides be visited for a different intent than threatening hybrid war.
The current Polish Prime Minister, just as Kaczyński, Morawiecki and Błaszczak did last year, went on a set against the background of military decorations, to say a fewer words about the increasing threat and how his government has bravely dealt with them and what bold decisions it makes. Local journalists only received information about the Prime Minister's morning visit last night. Apparently, this is how they tried to reduce attendance. Nothing lost due to the fact that gathering the press was about reading a message without asking questions.
The influence of abroad countries is not a dream
The timing of this visit was not random. Tusk arrived at the border shortly after A giant spy scandalwhich shook Poland. Shortly after May, it turned out that after political asylum to Belarus was followed by WSA referee Tomasz Szmydt, 1 of the heroes of the hatred crime in the judiciary, for many most likely better known as the erstwhile husband of “Little Emi”. The departure of Szmydt, who had most likely already worked with Belarusian, and possibly with Russian services, and his propaganda offensive in the service of the authoritarian regimes of the aggressor states, provoked strong emotions in society, and at the heights of power a series of urgent deliberations.
The case of the inverted justice proved that the influence of abroad states is not a dream at all, and reaches high-ranking officers. This, in turn, gives emergence to distrust not only towards politicians who regularly accuse themselves of working for hostile services, but towards the structures of a state that may be devoured by abroad agents. At the same time, Szmydt's communicative clearly showed what many people feared – the Polish counterintelligence limped since he missed his departure. Or possibly our services didn't work him out at all.
Fixing this situation takes time and considerable organizational effort. In order to reconstruct common trust, first of all, the service must be released from service in the logic of political polarization. Demining interior threats and barriers is simply a hard and long-term process. In the meantime, the case of the Smidge requires that we turn it over here and now. In order to lower your anxiety level, you must urgently mine.
Dipped in convenient populist slippers after predecessors Tusk arrives at the fence, on behalf of the nation speaks words of support for the army and announces the construction of fortifications on the east border. The blacksmith stole, the gypsy hanged. Recruited most likely in any Warsaw cafe Szmydt went to Belarus through Turkey, so let's throw in wire at the border, we'll be safer.
Tusk didn't make it up on his own.
The Prime Minister is led by a collective imagination, which, somewhere in its deep depths, creates perverse causes-effect relationships. It is revealed by the fresh article from “Business Insider”“ It was written in the form of questions and answers aimed at explaining who Szmydt was and what he did. 1 of the questions is, “Was Thomas Szmydt curious in the East?” Answer: “There is no certainty that Thomas Szmydt has long been curious in the East. The information here is contradictory. It is certain that he was born close the east border, due to the fact that in Białystok".
Guilty as chargedAs they say in the States. It's just like talking to the police at the intersection in the church Dubiches, who, for respective 100 times, wants to look in the trunk, as a legal basis, stating that you live close the border. due to the fact that if you're surviving in east Poland, you're already a suspect. Not only about human trafficking, but besides about contacts with Russian-Belarusian intelligence. And since east Poland is simply a suspect, that's where we request to defend ourselves against hostile influences.
Listening to Tusk’s comments, the impression of déjà vu cannot be avoided. Almost a year ago, as part of the prelude to the election campaign, the United Right Government made a wall of border barrier and military equipment, threatening a threat and promising immediately countermeasures. Tusk says precisely the same thing: the hybrid war is progressing, whatever that means. The tightness of the border – that is, the golden body of boundaryization, which can be explained by any legally and morally questionable practices – above all.
Time to build fortifications
This word, given without any context, is peculiarly disturbing for us in Podlasie. The Tusk Declaration coincides not only with the affair surrounding justice Szmydt's escape to Belarus, but besides with media mainstreaming demands on minning the border and building engineering fortifications, advanced by military and commentators of kind Martina Ripped From Onetu. In the parliament there were teams of experts who discussed this subject, the Defence portal24 in March that year published interview with General Bogusław Drumenkowhich says that the time to build fortifications along the border is dramatically shrinking and that legal solutions should be prepared to let them to be built. Unlike Tuska Drums, it is not limited to an enigmatic phrase about fortifications and speaks of the necessity of expropriation.
The Prime Minister's words so give area to elaborate conjecture about what these fortifications will be, how much space they will take, on whose land and in what mode they will arise. What about people who live in villages and towns along the border? Will they be displaced as part of the strengthening of the state's defence capacity? What about natural areas adjacent to the border, specified as Białowieża Forest or Augustowska Forest? Will it be essential to cut down a dense forest, which in itself is simply a barrier to military action to build fortifications?
It would besides be worth asking yourself who is lobbying for specified a solution. The next billions poured into the "sealing" of the border are the earnings of circumstantial companies and environments, which undoubtedly see business benefits in bordering. due to the fact that according to the logic examined in another parts of the world, about which the Trumpist communities talk openly – the barrier is not enough. Since the full tightness of the border cannot be achieved, its continuous sealing remains, driving fresh “investments”.
On the Polish-Belarusian border, this logic has already become more comfortable. The continued resolution of the crisis, which is constantly increasing, means the proliferation of associated expenditure and the expanding privileges of services, which is more attractive to the strategy than real solutions. The Tusk Declaration on unlimited measures and legal solutions to give freedom of action to the services shows that the current Prime Minister understands the political gains from borderisation and intends to compression them like lemon.
Interestingly, Tusk spoke of fortifications on the east border, although Poland borders Russia to the north. As well as his leaky crusade Tusk could have started with a visit to Kaszubach to announce the construction of walls in the coastal strip. And then go to Warmia and Mazury. The Prime Minister besides did not explain whether fortifications would besides arise on the border with Ukraine – due to the fact that since the east border, it is not only Belarus. But it seems that the Polish-Belarusian border with the barrier – with which the only problem of the current ruling squad is that it is simply a fusher due to the fact that it is insecure – has become a place where all the meanings are placed in the mass Polish imagination, attributed to the “eastern border”.
What about us?
The current government, like commentators advocating mincing and building a defence line along the border, forget that the state border is not just a line on the map drawn among the wilderness. It is simply a real place where real people, Polish citizens, live and work. Tusk does not want to talk to us, just as the erstwhile Morawiecki or Kaczyński did not. And erstwhile we hear about the concern of the nation and the government about the service, we would like to ask what legal solutions will defend us? Or will specified solutions no longer be needed? Is there no longer going to be a breach of authority by the servants due to the fact that they will be unlimited in the name of impermeability? For respective years now, in problematic situations between border residents and police, border guards and the military, we have been immediately in a lost position. There is no instance to which we can appeal due to the fact that the strategy protects its own. The military police are so uncovering no faults, press spokespersons are avoiding answers to questions, prosecutors in consequence to complaints are setting up cookers, justifying police excesses by the fact that they are "near the border". And if you do, you can always say it's top secret.
I don't even mention migrants or their fate. For Tusk, more and more border crossings – although not recalling data – are a problem. For residents adjacent to the border of the village, people with different skin colour are no longer a problem. The fear of propaganda was exhausted, the zeal to study border guards weakened. Experience has shown that these actions have no effect. But increasing without any mode of border barracks becomes a burden. To the inhabitants, even those who initially believed in the saving effects of the construction of the fence, which was expected to make everything as it utilized to be, begins to realize that sealing the border is simply a form of oppression not only towards strangers, but besides towards themselves. Those who were the wall behind the uniform discover that they themselves have been locked behind the wall on the 1 hand and the cordon of the police on the other, in a situation of continuous surveillance and control that defrauds the right to privacy and sows constant fear of ever-increasing fresh threats.
Listen to the author's podcast:
None of us here had any illusions about the Tusk government. But Tusk himself, who makes declarations on behalf of the nation and its mosaic cabinet, should remember that to power they were elevated to the voices of the civic community. People who, after years of authoritarian practices, especially those who have taken a monstrous form at the border with Belarus, are longing for dialog and want to be treated in partnership.
The ostentatious continuation of the practices of the United Right, which civilian dialog despises, will not supply Tusk, Holownia and Left-wing votes of the PiS voters. Tusk is right that the overwhelming majority of the population will support the “sealing of the border” – in the belief that it will halt global migration processes and that it protects them someway from Russian diversions and Russian or archashenko agents, which are long ago in Poland. However, it would be naive to presume that the government's takeover of the "October 15" populist-authoritarian agenda after its predecessors would not end up on border issues.
