In 1 of the most fresh talks in the cycle Piotr Barełkowski, the guest was the historian Dr. Krzysztof Żabierek, who discussed Operation “Wisła” and the fight against Ukrainian guerrillas in the south-eastern areas of Poland after planet War II.
The discussion focused on the political and military aspects of the Vistula operation, which in 1947 included the displacement of Ukrainian population and the liquidation of armed troops. Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA) and their support structures in the Lublin, Podkarpacie and confederate Mazovia areas.
Dr. Żabierek pointed out that to realize these processes it is essential to go beyond stereotypes and narratives simplified over the years present in post-war history. He pointed to the brutality of UPA's actions in the region and the degree of threat to the local population and structures of the Polish state.
