Błaszczak rejects the charge of collapse of the army
Mariusz Błaszczak, Vice president of Law and Justice, responded to a fresh recording by Sławomir Mentzen, in which the Confederate politician accused PiS governments of bringing the Polish Army to collapse. The erstwhile defence minister called this assessment manipulation and stated that his camp had rebuilt an army "out of the rubble".
Those are strong words, but a defence dispute cannot end in a conflict of slogans. Błaszczak led the defence department, so he is politically liable for personnel decisions, arms purchases, supplies and the pace of expansion of the armed forces. Mentzen makes a plea of collapse and should so indicate the papers and data which justify that assessment.
Mentzen demands the release of reports
In July 2026, Mentzen admitted that in the fall of 2022 he supported the transfer of more equipment to Ukraine. Later, he called it a mistake. On Confederation's authoritative website he explained that as a non-member then he did not know secret reports on the state of the army or the full scale of the arms and ammunition transferred.
The politician requested the release of reports and accurate information on military aid. He besides claimed that the units had been weakened and any of the ammunition was transferred from inviolable supplies. These are Mentzen's allegations, not facts confirmed in the origin material. The State should disclose as much data as it can without harming operational safety so that citizens can measure the decisions of subsequent governments.
The discussion has a broader context. Mentzen Before asked the government about Poland's readiness and deficiency of sheltersand requested information on the transfer of Patriot missiles to Ukraine. These questions concern the real capacity of the State, but their burden depends on the quality of the evidence submitted.
Modernization does not close questions about readiness
Błaszczak has the right to defend his achievements in the MON. During his word of office, large arms contracts were started and concluded and army numbers were developed. However, the list of contracts alone does not give a full answer to the question of how much equipment is already in the units, what are ammunition supplies, whether the training strategy keeps up with purchases and how rapidly the military achieves combat capability.
Similarly, the word "fall" cannot replace the balance sheet. Comparable data are needed: individual status, unit readiness, stocks, transportation times, repair capacity and national ammunition production. any of the information must stay confidential. However, this does not justify the political fog in which each organization announces its own version of reality.
Poles have the right to know the balance sheet
The dispute between Błaszczak and Mentzen is more crucial than the interests of the Law and Justice, the Confederation or the current government. Poland lies on the east flank of NATO and has no luxury of conducting a defensive debate in the form of a run spectacle. Questions about the credibility of allied guarantees are important, but the first work of the authorities remains to build their own strength.
Poles fund the army and bear the consequences of mistakes made today. They should be given a fair, transparent balance of changes since 2015, the impact of aid to Ukraine and the actions taken after the change of government. Whoever claims that the army has rebuilt or that it has been led to collapse must prove it. Without this, the organization message will prevail and the safety of the Republic will lose.
