No smartphones in schools? Poles powerfully for restrictions

According to the latest poll conducted by the Pollster investigation Institute, as many as 67% of Poles advocate the ban on smartphones in schools. It is simply a strong signal that the public sees the problem of excessive usage of telephones by students. Only 24% of respondents feel that specified a ban is not needed, and 9% do not have an opinion on this.

Problems with over-using smartphones

Modern technologies have greatly changed the way young people spend time. Many educators and specialists note that dependence on smartphones can have negative effects on the intellectual and physical wellness of students. Problems with concentration, deterioration of results in science, and even sleep disturbances – these are only any of the effects of the continuous usage of electronic devices.

More and more countries around the world, including France and the UK, introduce restrictions on the usage of smartphones in schools. In Poland, according to the study, support for this kind of regulation is besides increasing.

Expert and pedagogical opinions

For years, educators have called for restrictions on the usage of smartphones by students. They indicate that smartphones distract students during lessons, as well as origin problems in human relationships. alternatively of focusing on learning, students spend time browsing social media or playing games, which negatively affects their school performance.

Deputy Minister of Education Paulina Piechna-Wyżekiewicz confirmed that no legislative work is being carried out at the minute to introduce a nationwide ban on the usage of smartphones in schools. However, it does not exclude that specified regulations may be considered in the future.

Is banning smartphones a good solution?

Opinions on this are divided. Supporters of the ban stress that limiting access to smartphones in schools can improve students' concentration, which will positively affect their academic performance. On the another hand, opponents argue that smartphones present execute many functions, not only entertaining but besides educational. Students usage them to search for information, take notes or communicate with teachers.

The ban on smartphones in schools is simply a subject that inspires many Poles. As the survey shows, the majority of the population advocates restrictions on this issue, seeing problems arising from the excessive usage of telephones by children and young people. Although the Ministry of Education is not planning to introduce specified regulations for the time being, increasing public support can affect future decisions on this issue.
