The Marshal's Office of the Lublin Voivodeship decided to award 5 municipalities with the highest attendance in the presidential election. The full amount of awards is PLN 1.25 million, but the criterion of participation in the competition was clear – only the municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants could participate. According to the Euro MP of the Civic Coalition, Marta Wcisło is “stigmatising larger municipalities and possibly besides trying to finance a run of 1 candidate outside the authoritative committee”. The politician informed that she had notified the State Election Commission.

Which municipalities received awards and why?

On Monday, the Marshal's Office announced the results of the competition. The highest prize – PLN 500 1000 – was awarded to the Municipality of Chrzanów (the attendance was 84.72%). The following seats were taken:

  • Godzzów (81.49%) – PLN 300 thousand,
  • Rossosz (80.23%) – PLN 200 thousand,
  • Glow (78.43%) – PLN 150 thousand,
  • Konopnica (77.43%) – PLN 100 thousand.

Interestingly, in all these municipalities the decisive triumph was won by Karol Nawrocki – in Godzilla he won as many as 94.66% of the votes.

"Informal buying of votes"? Controversy around the contest

Euro MP Wcisło has no uncertainty – in her opinion the competition was a form of secret support of a peculiar candidate. – "It's nothing but informal, veiled buying votes" She said. She pointed out that in another regions, promotion actions included all local governments, not just elected ones.

She besides powerfully accused Marshal Jarosław Stawiarski of promoting her own individual in the campaign. – "During the run tour, I stopped at a agrarian store in Serokomla. There were flyers at the counters, the cashier threw them in all customer’s shopping.” She was reporting.

Official position of the Marshal Office

A spokesperson for the marshal, Remigius Malicki, explained that the competition was intended to combat communication exclusion in agrarian areas. – "For large cities, this money would not be specified a crucial support" He argued.

However, the MP does not convince this. – "This is stigmatizing larger municipalities, and possibly besides trying to fund a run of 1 candidate outside the authoritative committee" She stressed.

Will PKW take the stand?

The case went to the State Election Commission. Did the competition truly violate the principles of a fair campaign? We're waiting for a settlement.
