DELHI- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a social media search for a passenger who lent him charging equipment on an Emirates (EK) flight. The Chief Minister shared his experience on X, explaining how a fellow passenger helped him during his journey from Delhi (DEL) to Dubai (DXB).

Incident Details
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was travelling from Delhi (DEL) to Dubai (DXB) on an Emirates (EK) Flight on April 8. According to him, a “kind young gentleman” lent him an international plug and charging cable.
Sarma explained that he was unable to return the borrowed items because he fell asleep. The helpful passenger disembarked in Dubai (DXB), while the Chief Minister continued to Amsterdam (AMS).
“I’ve just now arrived in Amsterdam (AMS) and feel deeply apologetic for not returning his belongings,” Sarma stated.
He requested the passenger to send him a direct message so he could arrange to return the charger and cable promptly.

The Chief Minister’s post received various responses on social media. While some users appreciated his honesty and effort to return the items, others raised security concerns about the incident.
Several commenters pointed out potential risks associated with using unknown charging equipment, particularly for someone in a high-profile government position. One user wrote, “Get your phone checked as soon as possible.
The person may have good intentions, but as the state’s Chief Minister, there’s always a risk of your phone being tracked or your data being compromised.”

Security Concerns: Juice Jacking
The incident sparked discussion about “juice jacking” – a cybersecurity threat where modified USB charging ports or cables are used to access data from connected devices.
A social media user cautioned, “Hopefully, their intentions are clear, but as a CM, you should avoid using someone else’s cable and plug. There’s always a risk of your phone being tracked or your data being compromised. Yes, data theft through a cable is very much possible.”
