A 45-year-old Lithuanian citizen was detained close Kartuz, wanted by a European arrest warrant for sexual crimes against children. A man has been hiding in Poland since March, working in a meat processing plant and surviving in a motel in Pomerania. The court in his country sentenced him to 11 years in prison.
The detention was the consequence of close cooperation between Lithuanian services and the Polish police. The operation was conducted by the alleged Shadow Hunters from Podlasie – a peculiar unit dedicated to tracing wanted persons – with the support of officers from the Provincial Police office in Gdańsk.
The man hoped to vanish in the crowd. He changed his surroundings, took a job, moved distant from his country. He was hoping nobody would track him down. However, he underestimated the effectiveness and determination of the services. He was detained little than 48 hours after the European arrest warrant was issued. He's presently in police custody. The formalities relating to his extradition to Lithuania, where he will carry out the sentence, continue.
This is another substance that shows that global cooperation between services and the engagement of specialised bodies, specified as "shadow hunters", effectively prevent criminals from hiding, regardless of borders.
