My name is Marta, I'm a midwife. For many years I have accompanied women in 1 of the most crucial and delicate moments of their lives. I hold hands erstwhile a fresh life is born. It is my work to guarantee that the birth is carried out safely, calmly and in dignified conditions. But present I am writing to you due to the fact that I am truly scared.
As of 1 January 2026, the Ministry of wellness plans to introduce task No 1846. According to him, the transportation will be possible at the infirmary Emergency Unit with only 1 midwife – if it is considered that there is no time for transport to the maternity ward.
I've been working at the infirmary for years. And I should be clear about what this means in practice:
- No team. If a abrupt hemorrhage occurs or the newborn stops breathing, the neonatologist or the surgical squad ready to intervene immediately is not at hand.
- No appropriate equipment. The OR is not adapted for urgent imperial cuts or for specialised care of the newborn in a life-threatening state.
- No dignity. Imagine giving birth in a crowded place, among strangers, noise, haste and chaos...
It's the withdrawal of maternity by decades. Childbirth ceases to be an event requiring peculiar care, and it becomes a case that you effort to take care of any place and any way.
I can't take work for the life of a kid in a place that was never designed to save a newborn. We cannot let standards of care for women to go back 50 years. We must not discourage young women from mothering with fear and chaos. As a midwife, I powerfully argue the plans of the Ministry of wellness to make alleged births on the SORs.
Unfortunately, more births truly gotta vanish from the Polish map. Therefore, the Tusk government wants to force women into labour on the S.R.S. infirmary Rescue is simply a place where doctors fight for the lives of victims of accidents, where alarms never go silent, and all minute is chaos and fighting time. Of course, this is no place to welcome a kid to the world.
And yet it is there – as early as January – that women are to be hit. frequently under the care of only 1 midwife. No O.R. nearby. No incubator. Without a neonatologist who could save a newborn baby if something went wrong. This isn't custody. It's playing with life. It's a marginalization of women's safety erstwhile the wellness of the parent and kid is at stake.
Only the anti-polators from the Tusk government could come up with this kind of nonsense.
