Security services in the Baltic States in fresh weeks revealed the activity of the structure referred to as the "Anti-Fascists of the Baltics" — an initiative that originally presented itself as a left-wing anti-fascist movement, and in fact functioned as an influence agent and a network of informants linked to Russian peculiar services. According to the authoritative communications of the Latvian counterintelligence, these activities included the collection and transmission of information applicable to the Kremlin, which posed a serious threat to Latvia's national safety and its allies.
The group "Baltic Anti-Fascists" acted publically on social media and communicator Telegram, declaring an ideological attachment to the fight against Fascism and left narrative, which attracted any of the environments other the far right. However, the service analysis showed that this activity was only a cover for targeted propaganda and recruitment of informants to the Russian Federation.
Telegram, as a platform of advanced popularity in the region, has become the main communication and recruitment tool. The channels related to the “antifascists” encouraged members and sympathizers to collect information about military infrastructure, military movement, people supporting Ukraine, as well as to monitor the activities of NATO's allied forces. This data was then transmitted further through an organized network of informants.
In January 2026, the Latvian State safety Service (SGB) arrested at least 3 persons associated with the group “Baltic Antifascis”. The detainees, according to the investigative materials provided by the local media, provided information to the Russian intelligence services on the movement of military equipment, the locations of drone factories, and besides identified persons openly supporting Ukraine or bearing pro-Ukrainian symbols.
Some members of the grid left Latvia after discovering the investigation and went to Russia or Belarus, avoiding arrests.
