Polish president Andrzej Duda had a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States. Politicians agreed to meet before Trump's oath. Andrzej Duda stated that Trump called him to want Poles a want for independency Day.
President Andrzej Duda informed about the conversation with Donald Trump on Monday, before leaving for Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, where he will attend the COP29 climate conference.
"I besides wanted to convey to all my fellow countrymen – I was asked to do so just a minute ago – best wishes from President-elect Donald Trump of the United States," said Duda. “Just a minute ago, I virtually had a conversation with the President. He called to want wishes about our holiday, on our day of independence," he said.
The president added that Trump asked to thank the Polish voter in the United States presidential election "for electoral support". "Donald Trump said he knew that the vast majority of Poles in the United States... voted for him. He said that he was very grateful that he remembered Poland, that he promised us all here in the country and in the United States that he would always remember Poland, in the best possible sense of the word," said Duda.
Presidents – as he said – besides plan to hold a gathering before Donald Trump officially assuming office in January 2025. “This is simply a preliminary finding. No circumstantial deadline has yet been set," the president said.
"We have set up with the president in this conversation that we will meet again before he officially takes office, which is before the swearing-in that will take place in January. But we have besides discussed in this context that Poland has been holding the Presidency of the European Union since 1 January," said Duda.
The president noted that 1 of the priorities of the forthcoming Presidency is to strengthen the link between the European Union and the United States. "So we besides want to talk to President-elect Donald Trump about this issue. We agreed initially that specified a gathering would happen," he added.
The next event will be the Trimorz Summit, which will be held in Warsaw. "We will besides talk about the situation in Ukraine. The President-elect asked me about my assessment of the situation, so we have a lot to discuss, but surely closer cooperation between Poland and the United States," added the President.
Referring straight to the journey to Azerbaijan, Duda announced that COP29 would discuss, among another things, climate protection and the solutions that should be implemented for the future "in connection with this highly crucial issue, and, from my point of view, besides the improvement of modern technologies". He informed that 1 of the topics of the conference would besides be the usage of hydrogen for environmental protection and green energy.
"My bilateral gathering with the summit host, the president of Azerbaijan (Ilham Aliyev – PAP), with whom we have a good relation is besides anticipated," said Duda.
"Traditally since prof. Lech Kaczyński's presidency, president Aliyev has been in good relations with Poland. I had a visit to Azerbaijan a fewer years ago. We were talking about energy cooperation at the time, and surely these topics with president Aliyev, apart from issues related to the COP 29 conference itself, will continue," the president assured.
The climate summit of the United Nations COP29 will take place on 11-22 November in the capital of Azerbaijan Baku, under the heading "In solidarity for the green world". president Duda will finish his visit on Wednesday 13 November.
It is simply a cyclical event held all year. The Conference shall meet the most crucial body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The agreement was designed to importantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, fresh provisions have been added over time and the conference is now besides about climate issues in general.
