MIAMI- American Airlines (AA) officially launched service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO) on June 5, 2025, establishing the carrier’s fifth European destination from Miami.

The airline coordinated with Miami-Dade County officials to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the departure gate, featuring Italian cuisine and traditional entertainment for passengers aboard the inaugural flight.

The Rome route launch coincides with American Airlines’ largest summer schedule in Miami International Airport (MIA) history.

The carrier plans to operate more than 37,200 flights from Miami between May 16 and September 2, representing a significant expansion of the airline’s Miami operations.

This Miami schedule forms part of American’s systemwide summer operation of over 715,000 flights, averaging five flights per minute across the airline’s entire network.

Service to Popular Destinations

American Airlines (AA) simultaneously increased flight frequencies to several high-demand destinations from Miami this summer.

The airline enhanced service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Las Vegas (LAS), Montego Bay (MBJ), Los Angeles (LAX), and New York LaGuardia (LGA) airports.

These route expansions complement the new Rome service as part of the carrier’s comprehensive summer growth strategy.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasized the route’s significance for the region’s economic development and international profile.

She stated that American Airlines continues driving Miami International Airport’s global success through bold expansion initiatives like the Rome connection.

Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of Miami Operations, characterized the expansion as evidence of the airline’s strengthened position in the Miami market.
