The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the issue as a “possible landing gear incident,” noting that it happened at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time, after the aircraft had left Gate C34, with departure scheduled at 1:12 p.m.

Emergency services responded promptly, and a small fire on board was extinguished, according to a fire department update.

Official Remarks

American Airlines (AA) confirmed that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 experienced a maintenance issue involving a tire. The aircraft has been removed from service and will undergo a thorough inspection by the airline’s maintenance team.

While five passengers were evaluated on the scene and cleared, one passenger was transported from the gate area with a minor injury. The airline arranged for a replacement aircraft to continue the journey to Miami International Airport (MIA) later in the evening.

As a result of the incident, Denver International Airport (DEN) temporarily issued a ground stop from 2:00 p.m. to shortly after 3:00 p.m., affecting all incoming flights yet to depart.

According to FlightAware, 87 flights experienced delays during this window. Airport operations resumed normal activity by late afternoon.

This marks the second American Airlines (AA) incident at DEN in recent months. In March 2025, a separate aircraft suffered an engine-related issue, prompting a precautionary diversion to Denver.

Similar Incident

A United Airlines (UA) Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner experienced a landing gear tire fire after arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on July 20, following a transatlantic flight from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV).

The incident occurred on Flight UA85, which landed safely before fire crews at EWR responded quickly to extinguish the fire on the taxiway, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

United Airlines Flight UA85, operated using a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (registration N91007), departed from Tel Aviv (TLV) at 9:46 AM UTC on July 20 and completed an approximately 11-hour journey to Newark (EWR), touching down at 9:05 PM UTC. Upon landing, heat buildup in one of the main landing gear tires caused it to catch fire while the aircraft was taxiing.

Emergency responders at Newark acted swiftly to contain and extinguish the fire before it could pose a broader safety risk. No injuries or further complications were reported. The aircraft remained intact, and passengers disembarked safely after the response was completed.

The Dreamliner involved in this incident, tail number N91007, is part of United’s fleet of thirteen Boeing 787-10s and is approximately 6.2 years old.
