MONTREAL- Air Canada (AC) will launch three new U.S. routes in May 2026, strengthening connectivity from Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL). The new services expand links to San Antonio (SAT), Cleveland (CLE), and Columbus (CMH).
The airline (AC) plans to operate these flights with Airbus A220 and Embraer E175 aircraft, adding both frequency and network depth across North America. These routes mark a strategic step in reinforcing U.S.-Canada travel options, Ishrion Aviation reported.

Air Canada Adds Three New US Routes
Starting May 1, 2026, Air Canada (AC) will roll out three new cross-border services:
- Toronto (YYZ) – San Antonio (SAT): three weekly flights using Airbus A220 aircraft.
- Montreal (YUL) – Cleveland (CLE): daily flights operated by Embraer E175 aircraft.
- Montreal (YUL) – Columbus (CMH): daily flights also operated by Embraer E175 aircraft.
The Toronto–San Antonio route is a first for Air Canada (AC), giving travelers direct access between Ontario’s largest hub and Texas. From Montreal, the addition of Cleveland and Columbus broadens access to key Midwest business and leisure destinations.

Strengthening U.S.–Canada Business and Leisure Travel
These new services respond to growing demand for more direct options between Canada and mid-sized U.S. cities.
San Antonio (SAT) offers a mix of business, tourism, and cultural appeal, while Cleveland (CLE) and Columbus (CMH) provide gateways to Ohio’s commercial and educational hubs.
By targeting these specific markets, Air Canada (AC) not only supports business travel but also caters to growing tourism flows, particularly between Quebec and the U.S. Midwest.

Aircraft Choice and Scheduling
The Airbus A220 on the Toronto–San Antonio route offers passengers a modern, fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft designed for medium-haul routes.
Meanwhile, the Embraer E175 is well-suited for the Montreal–Cleveland and Montreal–Columbus markets, striking a balance between capacity and frequency.
This mix allows the airline (AC) to tailor service to market size while maintaining comfort and efficiency. Daily frequencies on the Ohio routes emphasize convenience for business travelers, while the three-weekly San Antonio service introduces a new leisure and trade option from Toronto.

Strategic Growth in North America
Air Canada’s (AC) expansion underscores its continued investment in U.S. connectivity, a market central to its international growth.
The United States remains the airline’s largest foreign market, with more than 50 destinations already served. Adding San Antonio, Cleveland, and Columbus enhances its competitive position against both U.S. and Canadian carriers.
For passengers, the benefit is clear: more non-stop options reduce travel time and improve access to secondary cities without relying on larger U.S. hubs.
