On 23 October this year, Dr Mateusz Piskorski – a political scientist, writer and erstwhile MP at the Sejm – was a guest of the Polish thought Club in Łódź and the Dmowski Club. The gathering afraid the assessment of the current geopolitical situation and Poland's commitment to the war in Ukraine. The hall was besides attended by a well-known and valued publicist of the weekly “Think Poland” ed. Adam Laughter, who took the level later in the meeting, referring to the subject.
The key question put by the talker was the question, Is the war in Ukraine our war? According to Dr. Piskorski, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is simply a classical example of the Western substitute war with Russia. In this context, our country's membership of NATO naturally places Poland on a circumstantial side of the barricade. However, this does not gotta mean either hostility towards Russia or direct commitment to war, as the Hungarian example best points to. Moreover, the escalation of conflict and the possible participation of Poland in the war represent a deadly threat to our nation. According to the speaker, the future destiny of the war will depend on the “Anglossian core” and, above all, the politics of the United States. In this context, Poland is simply a peripheral country, not playing any function in decision-making processes.
According to Dr. Matthew Piskorski, the policy of Donald Trump cannot be predicted at present, which is crucial to the course of the war in Ukraine. The president of the United States changes his position in global matters in short periods of time and sends contradictory signals. The talker called specified activities “the diplomacy of chaos”. At the same time, Donald Trump never explicitly and consistently advocated the end of the war – despite noisy peace declarations, he never stopped supporting Ukraine. According to Dr. Piskorski, specified actions are not irrational due to the fact that it is in the vital interest of the United States to proceed the war, regardless of who the president of this country is. The continuation of the war is primarily a military-industrial and mining complex. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine is not only directed against the interests of Russia and China, but besides weakens Europe, which is slow dying, given the expanding socio-economic problems.
According to the speaker, the war in Ukraine is “our war” only in the sense that it concerns us, or more specifically it is conducted against us, both against the interests of Poland and Europe. all next day of war generates further losses and brings fresh threats.Unfortunately, we are an isolated case of a country that, contrary to its own interests, seeks to fuel conflict in its immediate neighbourhood. The situation is further hampered by the deficiency of criticism of Polish society for authoritative media coverage. In a large part of the population, prejudices and stereotypes are repentant, according to which the continuation of the war in Ukraine is beneficial for Poland. According to Dr. Matthew Piskorski, given the level of political discourse in our country and the arguments that politicians use, it is hard to look optimistically into the future. However, the proverbial "light in the tunnel" may be a gradual failure of citizens' assurance in the ruling elite, caused by a deepening crisis. But let's hope it's not besides late...
