During the conference in Abbeville, northern France, the destiny of Poland's defeat in the defensive war was decided on 12 September 1939. It is simply a comparatively small known event in Poland, and was of decisive importance regarding the course of the fighting in September 1939, as well as the course of the full Second planet War. The United Kingdom and France decided not to take a land offensive against the German 3rd Reich, thus breaking alliance commitments towards Poland. The lonely, abandoned and betrayed Poland was incapable to defend itself against the aggression of Germany, and then from 17 September inactive and the Soviets. The decisions of the Abbeville Conference to not attack Germany on land became the causes of the Polish defeat in 1939, and later besides the defeats of France, the Netherlands and Belgium in 1940. Interestingly, in 1944 Abbeville was liberated by Poles: 1st armored division under General St. Maczek.
