Michael Falzmann. Who was he, and why was he killed?

[...]

Michał Falzmann left the company without collecting a wage erstwhile he discovered business practices. As his wife stated in the movie "The Fool", he was then to receive threats from high-profile company employees.

At the same time in Poland, the issue was to become the biggest economical scandal in history, the alleged FOZZ affair.

What was FOZZ? The FOZZs were in general two, the first of them operated from 1986 to 1989, and the second from 1989 to 1990.

In the mid-1980s, no 1 oriented in the economical and political condition of the Polish People's Republic had any uncertainty that breakthrough reforms had to take place in a fewer years, which could origin a serious and very deep socio-economic crisis associated with the transition of the economy and society from a pre-serve to a free marketplace economy. Therefore, in order to cushion the effects of this process, FOZZ was established. The task of FOZZ was to buy Polish abroad debt with abroad currency. As it is known, the debt is purchased for little than it itself, so the acquisition of the debt by the Polish State, for example, is illegal, the sovereign debt can only repay.

The members of FOZZ were to do so in private ways, so in a way on the border of law – through various intermediaries, poles, etc. For this purpose, people with abroad contacts, specified as Polish businessmen, diplomats, intelligence agents, etc., were usually chosen.

As it is easy to guess, there were no authoritative accounts, plans and another files to paper the flow of money – the performers simply received certain sums of money by which they were to buy out the debt.

For this purpose, the Polish People's Republic allocated about 9.9 trillion old zlotys, or about 1.7 billion USD. It was possible to buy a debt worth US$7.6 billion, and abroad debt of the Polish People's Republic in 1989 amounted to nearly US$41 billion, so we are talking about buying almost 20% of the debt.

FOZZ spent $69 million on debt buyout, buying a debt worth $272 million.

The remainder vanished into the air, any immediately, remaining the sum – after transfer to companies in taxation havens.

But we are inactive in the 1980s. – Michał Falzmann becomes manager of Polono, a tiny company producing devices for measuring radioactivity, and works in the Warsaw treasury. Falzmann, however, is an highly ambitious man – shortly he becomes 1 of the auditors of the ultimate Audit Chamber.

Taking advantage of its past experience and the opportunities offered by NIK, Falzmann part by part discovers the real face of FOZZ and the scale on which the Treasury funds are embezzled. It acts aggressively and violently, without concealing its intentions, making it rapidly salt in the eye of both members of FOZZ and most of the another organizations in which the alleged expropriation of the nomenclature takes place, i.e. simply stealing the assets that gathered PZPR and PRL. He besides ceases to be a welcome worker of NIK itself. Falzmann's superiors realize that even NIK is not able to halt the most dangerous players in a murderous game, which runs by tens of billions of dollars.

Falzmann, however, works without remainder – on July 16, 1991, he sends a letter to the manager of the NBP territory Branch asking for information about the financial turnover of FOZZ covered by the secrecy. The puzzle slow reveals its secrets to him until it is clear that FOZZ is not the origin of all evil – it is only a smaller vessel connected to the full system. The way continued, to abroad exchange operations of the Trade Bank, and from there – to a immense operation to bring the motto out of Poland with a rigid dollar rate.

Here's a insignificant digression for Dr. Balcerovich's fans. It is clear that it was Dr. Balcerowicz who froze the dollar rate, so that wider perturbation in the economy that afraid most of the population was avoided. However, this move, or alternatively the fact that specified an action is planned, allowed for the creation of Art-B, which was active in various political scandals in the early 1990s, and besides enabled this immense operation, which was part of FOZZ. That's worth knowing.

Meanwhile, the highest management of NIK already knows that the incorruptible authoritative from the strategy Analysis Team, Michał Falzmann, brings large danger to all co-workers. For this reason, prof. Walerian Pańko decides to remove Michał Falzmann from the investigation. It does so at a time erstwhile Falzmann's comprehensive study revealing the criminal activity of FOZZ is practically completed.

The decision to remove Falzmann is handed to him by Anatol Lawin, his direct supervisor. Both Avalanche and Falzmann had already received telephone calls and threatening letters.

Two days after the request was made for access to the bank's data and for dismissal from the investigation, Michał Falzmann meets Kornel Morawiecki erstwhile he returns home. He faints during the conversation. Morawiecki puts him in his car and drives him to the hospital, where doctors say he has a heart attack.

July 18, 1991 Michael Falzmann is dying.

However, NIK continues to work on the report. Prof. Walerian Pańko announces that he will present a study in the Sejm on 11 October 1991.

On October 7, 1991, Walerian Pańko and his wife and Janusz Zaporoski, then manager of the Information Office of the Chancellery of the Sejm, are going from Warsaw to Katowice for a lecture. In Słostowice lancia collides with the coming from the BMW, Walerian Pańko and Janusz Zaporowski face death, the wife of Pańka and the driver survives the accident. Shortly thereafter, on a fishing journey together, both policemen were killed, who were the first to arrive at the scene due to the fact that they were accidentally passing through.

Anatol Lawina dies on September 16, 2006. He received threats all the time, his death was not full explained.

Michał Falzmann rests on Old Powązki, Anatol Lawina – at the judaic Cemetery in Warsaw, the grave of Valerian Pańka is located in the cemetery in Jasionów.

The FOZZ associate process in September 2001 is coming to an end. On October 19, 2001, the lead judge, Barbara Piwnik, covers the portfolio of Justice Minister in Leszek Miller's government.

Due to the change of the referee in charge, the immense FOZZ case must be heard from the beginning. By the time the reconnaissance is over, the statute of limitations is over. In 2006 and 2007, there are ineligible and insignificant sentences of respective years in prison and fines for the most prominent members of FOZZ.

Michał Falzmann was awarded posthumously by president Lech Kaczyński in 2009 with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (on which charges of accepting money from FOZZ were made in 2000 erstwhile he and his brother Jarosław Kaczyński were members of the Centre's Agreement).

He repeatedly emphasized that his fight against windmills was progressing, so that his children did not gotta live in Poland's stolen communists.

A man who for his relentless pursuit of fact paid the highest price—the price of his own life.
