Tens of thousands of demonstrators have taken part in 1 of the largest fresh protests in Brussels, demanding that Belgium and the European Union cease arms supply to Israel and impose sanctions on the country due to the ongoing blockade of the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

The procession, spanning hundreds of metres, moved from the vicinity of the Northern Station to the center of the Belgian capital. About 60 organizations participate in the action.

Police study 20,000 demonstrators, while organizers talk 80,000.

Protesters have carried banners calling for "the conclusion of arms supplies to Israel", "sanctions" and for those liable for the death of tens of thousands of Gazans. In a statement, the organizers of the rally stated that it was essential to "achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip", complete its blockade and let access to humanitarian aid, "to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement".

The organisers recalled that Israel has been blocking humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip since 2 March, on which more than 2 million people depend. "Israel methodically wages war on destruction, which since 2 March has been intensified by a complete humanitarian blockade, turning hunger into weapons," the organizers wrote in a statement.

Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, who resided in Moscow, said that since the fall of 2023, erstwhile the large-scale attack on Israel followed by an operation in Palestinian territories, more than 50,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip.

Former European abroad Policy spokesperson Anwar al-Anouni said that the European Union is afraid about Israel's plans to extend the military operation in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, but does not plan to take any action to put force on the Israeli side.

The pro-Palestinian action coincides with the Nakba anniversary (catastrophe) which Palestinians celebrate all year on May 15, the day after the anniversary of the establishment of the judaic state in 1948. During this time hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to flee the territories under his control. The Palestinians chose the keys as a symbol of this date, which indicate the hope of refugees returning to the homes they left.
