500 classes for Ukrainians themselves in Polish schools. Is this what assimilation is expected to be like?

Many students from Ukraine, especially between the 3rd and 4th grades of advanced school, do not proceed to survey until graduation. The strategy disappears then even about 35 percent of the year – according to report devoted to abroad students in Polish schools. Moreover, the study after the first 1 revealed the number of classes in which Ukrainians themselves learn. There's 500 of them all over the country.

In Poland there are 500 school classes for Ukrainians themselves. A fewer days ago, the Center for Civic Education in cooperation with the global Rescue Committee Polska (IRC) published a study "Foreign students in Polish schools in the school year 2024/2025". It is based on the analysis of administrative data collected in the Education Information strategy (SIO), the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) bases and the PESEL UKR register.

The survey shows that foreigners presently account for 5.3 percent of people in the Polish education system. This is simply a full of 353,000 people, including 237 1000 in schools, 62.6 1000 in kindergartens and 53.4 1000 in adult schools. These people come from 148 countries. Outside Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, most people came from India and Vietnam.

Among 237 1000 abroad children and youth in schools, 203 1000 come from Ukraine. abroad students are present in 67% of all schools, i.e. in about 14.1 1000 institutions (including 89 percent technicians throughout Poland and 95 percent schools in Wrocław). This means that most Polish students (over 4 million) experience cultural and national diversity in the school. The study emphasized that in all 3rd grade in Poland students from Ukraine are learning (it is 88,8 1000 branches).

The authors of the study point out that the introduction of a school work for exile children from Ukraine caused an increase in the number of students in schools by about 14,000. As noted, this increase is much little than the expectations of the Ministry of National Education and of organisations and institutions supporting educational integration (including the Centre for Civic Education).

According to PESEL UKR data, there are 364.5 1000 refugees from Ukraine at school age in Poland. However, the paper indicates that the PESEL UKR database is likely to be overestimated due to the fact that alleged "war refugees" leaving Poland to another Schengen countries are not automatically deregistered from it. The study states that “it is improbable that parents of more than 200,000 school-aged children will bother applying for 800 plus and not send their children to school.”

At the same time, the convergence of ZUS and SIO data makes it probable that there are presently around 150 1000 children surviving in Poland from Ukraine at school age. Almost all children of this group surviving in the country have a school obligation, as it is simply a condition for obtaining a benefit of 800 plus. ‘However, these facts cannot be clearly confirmed due to the fact that the data from SIO, ZUS and PESEL have not been compared’ – reads the paper.

The Civic Education Centre indicates that the number of refugees from Ukraine in over-primary schools has increased year to year, but data shows that many students do not proceed to survey until graduation. This is especially the case between the 3rd and 4th grade of advanced school and after the 1st grade of method discipline and manufacture school. The strategy disappears then even about 35 percent of the yearbook.

"We don't know what happens to these people. Their situation needs urgent examination. These young people are improbable to leave the country. If they stay outside the education strategy before they scope the age of 18, they lose their chance to gain education that allows them to find themselves on the labour marketplace and learn Polish language crucial for their integration with Polish society” – noted the authors of the report.

The authors besides point to the problem of foreigners utilizing Polish lessons. The paper shows that although his cognition is simply a prerequisite for long-term success in the Polish education system, only 36 percent of foreigners usage additional lessons. This, according to experts, should be very worrying.

"We do not know the reasons for low attendance in these classes. We besides do not know with what cognition of the Polish language abroad students finish them and whether it is adequate to proceed learning in the Polish school” They're judging.

According to the authors of the report, the functioning of alleged abroad branches in many Polish schools is peculiarly worrying. They are regular classes (not preparatory troops), but only students from Ukraine learn in them. specified branches, as was stated, function in Polish schools of about 500 branches.

"We do not know how working in specified classes affects integration with the remainder of the school community, the chance to learn Polish and the anticipation to accomplish educational success. Information from teachers gathered during another studies shows that these are classes in which it is hard to work, which could lead to marginalisation of these students" – reads in the document.

In final conclusions, the study called on the MEN to include educational integration among policy priorities in this area. The conclusions besides indicated the request to compare data from the SIO, PESEL, ZUS databases and the request to introduce the work of Polish discipline as the second. As you can imagine, the conclusions will be underestimated by Barbara Nowacka. This is not about any integration and assimilation of Ukrainians, but about the Ukrainianization of Poland and the creation of conditions for cultural conflicts known from the Second Polish Republic. A divided and divided society is easier to rule.
