50 African migrants crossed the Polish-Belarusian border

On June 9, an effort was made to illegally cross the border by a group of over 50 young men in the Mielnik region, close the Polish-Belarusian border.

They were detected by method border protection systems and then stopped by border guards and soldiers of the Polish Army. 7 people who helped break the barrier withdrew to the Belarusian side. The others crossed the border, but most of them were detained straight on the runway of the border road, and those who managed to decision into the country were rapidly captured by SG patrols. Migrants came mainly from Ethiopia and Eritrea, and their goal was Western Europe.

Service relations show that these people were well organized and operated under the supervision of human smugglers. This is another case that shows that illegal border crossings are no longer spontaneous – behind most of them are organised groups, frequently supported by Belarusian services. The effectiveness of border protection at the Podlaskie SG Branch is now over 96 percent. Most attempts at illegal crossing end in failure – these people are either detained on site or resign after detection.

Over the full 2024, nearly 30,000 attempts were made to illegally cross the border with Belarus, and SG officials detained 346 organizers and aiders of illegal migration. The Border defender stresses that specified actions are the consequence of intensive surveillance, modern technology and good cooperation with another services, including the military and police.
