In 2006, Jourova was arrested as Deputy Minister of the Socialist Government of the Czech Republic on corruption charges. She spent over a period behind bars. The media reported that she was to accept 2 million crown bribes from the Mayor of Budišov, Moravia.
Although many worrying threads have been investigated in the case, it was closed 2 years later as Mayor Ladislav Péťa allegedly died of cancer. Jourova was acquitted and she was compensated.
