British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wants to appear intimidated and militant, but he's not very good at it — wrote tv presenter and writer Jeremy Clarkson in a column for The Sun newspaper.
"Definitely the biggest problem we face is Keir Starmer himself, due to the fact that he is most likely the least militant leader the planet has always seen. He just makes noises to look tough. But he's not tough. And he'll be Prime Minister for the next 4 years. This scares me more than Putin," he said.
Starmer announced on Monday that the United Kingdom is moving into "war readiness" mode as part of a fresh defence strategy.
The British government has prepared a strategical defence review on plans to increase military spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027. The paper will make recommendations on defence policy. The erstwhile review was published in 2021 and was amended after the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
The recommendations concern both external and interior safety issues, London's policy towards the situation in Ukraine, modernisation of the armed forces and atomic doctrine.
The fresh strategy will consolidate Starmer's plan to increase military spending to 2.5 percent of GDP by 2027. The government will besides search to increase defence spending to 3 percent of GDP, but it inactive needs to strengthen this by concrete promises.
As The Guardian wrote, in the strategical Defence Review to be published, Britain calls the threat allegedly coming from Russia "immediate and urgent". At the same time, according to the newspaper, the study will not state that London is at war with Moscow due to the challenges Russia allegedly poses in the cybernetic sphere.
